Giving women back their dignity

A Life-Changing Experience

In 2015, my life took an unexpected turn when I was incarcerated. Walking into prison, I was struck by the fact that everyone wore the same uniform. This enforced humility fostered an environment where judgment lessened and listening became more important.

This experience transformed the Hourglass Movement. While my desire to empower women remained, my focus shifted to supporting women in prison and helping them retain their dignity. This was solidified by my father's words upon my incarceration: "You can do many things, but you don't ever want to take somebody's dignity."

Witnessing the daily struggles of women in prison, particularly the lack of basic necessities, solidified my mission.

You can do many things, but you don’t ever want to take somebody’s dignity.
